A Level subject choices: what to consider in Year 11

How Year 11 students in the UAE can choose A Level subjects with university pathways, workload, and teaching support in mind.

Choosing A Levels is one of the biggest academic decisions UAE students make after IGCSE. The right mix balances university goals, genuine interest, and a workload you can sustain across Year 12 and Year 13.

Start from destinations, not trends

List target degrees or career areas and check typical subject requirements. Medicine, engineering, and economics pathways often constrain choices more than general arts or business routes. When unsure, keep doors open with at least one facilitating subject.

Respect depth over breadth

A Level goes deeper than IGCSE. Three strong subjects usually beat four stretched ones. Factor in coursework load, lab time, and whether online or in-person tutoring is available for your combination.

Talk to teachers early

Ask current teachers where your Year 11 performance suggests strength. Review mock results by topic. If you plan to continue with CramEd Tech into A Level, share your shortlist when you book a call so we can advise on cohort fit.
